New fitness class for over-60s starting in February

A FABS new fitness class designed specifically for the over-60s is being launched in West Lancashire as part of a national campaign to help people stay active and independent as they get older.

Active West Lancs has teamed up with The MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ® programme, (developed by the Centre for Healthy Ageing Research at the University of Birmingham), to bring these classes to West Lancashire to help older adults here live healthier, happier lives for longer.

The exercises are suitable for everyone whatever their ability or mobility and can be done seated, standing or with chair support. Each class incorporates exercises to improve Flexibility, Aerobics, Balance and Strength (FABS).

Margaret Wilkinson, specialist instructor for MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ®, is on a mission to improve the strength and overall health of the over-60s community and is encouraging them to come along to an exercise class with a difference!

Margaret said: “I’m thrilled to be starting MOVE IT OR LOSE IT! ® classes in West Lancashire. I want to get this age group feeling great about themselves again. We ensure there's a warm welcome for everyone who attends and the first session they attend is free.

“The classes aren't about people dressing in lycra ready to hit the gym or doing a high intensity session, they are for people who want to improve their fitness and remain independent and active for longer. They are a fantastic way to socialise, make new friends, keep fit and have fun whilst doing it."

Classes cost £5 each after the first free session. They take place every Thursday starting on 13 February between 10am-11am at Emmanuel Methodist United Reformed Church, Derby Street, Ormskirk, and Brookside Retirement Living, Aughton Street, Ormskirk, from 2-3pm. Places are limited and booking is essential.
