New portfolio holder for Planning appointed
West Lancashire Borough Council has appointed a new cabinet member for planning. Councillor Gaynar Owen (Up Holland Ward), a former Chair of the Planning Committee, has stepped up into the role following the decision of Councillor David Evans to reluctantly stand down from his position due to health concerns. Councillor Evans will continue to represent the residents of Burscough East as their ward councillor.
Councillor Ian Moran, Leader of West Lancashire Borough Council, said: “Councillor Owen brings a huge depth of knowledge and experience to the role and is well-placed to help and oversee the development of planning issues across the Borough, and I welcome her appointment.
"I would also like to put on record my thanks to Councillor Evans - I am hugely grateful to David for all he has done in the cabinet, but people’s health and family must come first and so I wish him all the best for the future.”
Councillor Gaynar Owen said: “I will continue to ensure that the people of West Lancashire's views will remain a key part of planning despite the Government’s planned reforms on our planning system.”
