Register your interest in taking over the Chapel Gallery

Do you feel you can run an innovative arts gallery that has become one of the most respected in the North West?

Then get in touch with West Lancashire Borough Council to enquire about taking over the Chapel Gallery.

The Council is looking for interested parties to take over and run the Gallery as part of its sustainable organisation review to ensure the venue has an even brighter and successful future.

Events such as the Lancashire Open Exhibition have seen the Gallery become an important centre for the arts in the North West.

The Gallery has been refurbished in recent years to double to space available for exhibitions and events and allow it to take larger higher profile touring shows such as the World Illustration Awards Exhibition as well as more innovative art shows, including those featuring digital media. Many groups also book spaces in the Gallery for a wide variety of community, arts, craft, health and fitness activities such as yoga, dance, choir, and pre and post-natal wellbeing classes.

In 2019 staff worked to bring a cinema facility back to Ormskirk for the first time in almost 40 years. Folk Nights have recently started there adding another attraction to the Gallery's already impressive list.

The Council is seeking an organisation to take over and run the Chapel Gallery on a commercial basis. However, its vision for the Gallery is that it retains an arts and cultural focus with exhibitions, performances, films and other cultural activities that draw people into West Lancashire and contribute to the economic and social activity of Borough and add social value to its activities.

The Chapel Gallery plays a pivotal role as West Lancashire's creative and cultural hub providing new and compelling reasons for people to visit. The Council would expect a new operator to introduce new activities that would contribute positively to the Borough with complementary uses that would increasing footfall and vibrancy within Ormskirk and the Gallery itself.

Councillor Yvonne Gagen, portfolio holder for Leisure, said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for an arts organisation to take over and run the fantastic Chapel Gallery. We hope a number of suitable potential operators will come forward offering to take it on."

Organisations should register their interest through the Council's procurement portal at The Chest (external link) by 9 September. Further information about the Chapel Gallery can be found at Chapel Gallery (external link).
