West Lancashire Borough Council is backing a new initiative to cut bills for local retailers.
The government has announced it is increasing the business rates discount for small retail businesses from 33% to 50% and extending the discount to eligible music venues. An additional £1,000 discount will also be provided to eligible small pubs. The discounts will come into effect from 1 April 2020.
Dave Coyle, Chair of Ormskirk Business Action, said: "This will be a great help for the local economy and businesses investing in the area."
Councillor Adam Yates, portfolio holder for Transformation and Resources, said: “Local businesses are the lifeblood of the West Lancashire economy and they play a significant role in making our borough such a great place to live, work and visit. Given the current challenges facing pubs and bars nationally, they need all the support we can offer and we are pleased to be able to pass this benefit on to them.”
