Small Business Grant Fund Scheme
We are still welcoming applications from eligible small businesses under Phase 1 of the Council's Business Grant Fund Scheme which closes at midnight on Monday 15 June.
The Government-backed scheme has proved popular with eligible small businesses since its launch on 29 May and has supported 66 local businesses, paying out over £230,000 in grants so far.
One of those businesses is Millhouse Training, a small business occupying a shared office space in Skelmersdale and director Elaine Roberts praised the scheme by saying: "Obtaining this grant has given us a lifeline and will hopefully give us much needed breathing space to build the business back up following the massive impact of COVID -19. The application process was very user friendly and the response to our application was quick."
Phase 1 of the Government backed scheme is aimed at small businesses in the following business sectors who are not eligible for existing grant funding and which have relatively high ongoing fixed property related costs and can demonstrate that they have suffered a significant fall in income due to the COVID-19 crisis:
- Charity properties
- Small businesses in shared offices or other flexible workspaces
- Regular market traders
- Bed & Breakfasts which pay Council Tax instead of business rates
Detailed guidance and an application form can be found at Covid 19 business support.
Details of Phase 2, which will look to support additional small business sectors, will be released shortly.
Councillor Adam Yates, portfolio holder for Transformation and Resources, said: "I am delighted we have been able to help so many more businesses under Phase 1 of the Scheme who were ineligible for previous grants schemes. If you run a local business that was not eligible for the previous grants, please check the Council website for guidance on eligibility and how to apply by midnight on Monday 15 June. I am pleased that we will be able to support even more local businesses under Phase 2 of the Scheme, details of which will be announced shortly."
The total number of local businesses supported through the Council's coronavirus-related business grants to date is 1693 and total payments amount to over £19,610,150.
