Support for the local economy

As local businesses are facing more pressures, West Lancashire Borough Council is pulling out all the stops to help the local economy.

1,250 retail, leisure and hospitality businesses will receive a 12-month break from paying business rates and will have received correspondence from the Council confirming there is no payment required.

Further financial help is being promoted to retail, leisure and hospitality businesses through cash grants if they have a rateable value under £51,000. The offer of a cash grant is also being made to those businesses that receive small business rate relief and rural rate relief.  To date £5.3m has been paid out to 420 businesses.

A team of dedicated staff have been busy liaising with local businesses on how to access these grants and businesses can find out more by visiting

To support the businesses who are commercial tenants of the Council a 3 month rent holiday has been offered to help their cashflow at this difficult time. All of our commercial tenants have been contacted with details of how to apply.

Councillor Adam Yates, portfolio holder for Finance and Transformation, said “We are doing everything we can to help local businesses and to process grant payments quickly.

"If you are a business owner who has received a letter or email regarding the small business grants support please complete the form and send it back to us as soon as possible so we can get the funds to you."
