Breaches of planning control and enforcement notices

As part of our Development Management service, we investigate reports of alleged breaches of planning control and take enforcement action where necessary.

Report a breach in planning permission

Whilst the details of the alleged breach will be publicly available, your name, address and any details within your report which identifies you will be kept confidential to the council. However, if you make comments on any subsequent planning application these will be available for the public to read.

Planning enforcement investigations will be carried out in accordance with the Enforcement Plan (PDF 45kb).

We aim to acknowledge your report within seven days of receipt, and aim to keep you informed of progress, so it will be necessary for you to supply contact details. We try to visit the site within 14 days of receipt.

We are experiencing a high volume of applications and communications by email, post and telephone.  There is currently a backlog of planning applications to be validated, which may impact on timescales and we may request an extension of time to determine some applications.  There is also a significant backlog of enforcement complaints which remain under investigation.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Details of enforcement notices served from 2007 onwards are available using our Public Access system.
