What is social media?
Twitter and Facebook are social networking services.
Facebook is one of the most popular social networks in the UK. You register to use the site, then create a personal profile and add other users as friends, exchange messages, and receive automatic notifications when they update their profile.
Twitter is a way of communicating and staying connected with people through the exchange of quick, frequent messages. People write short updates, called "tweets" of 140 characters or less. These messages are posted to your twitter profile and sent to anyone who has a twitter account and has requested to follow you. All you need to use twitter is an internet connection or a mobile phone. Even if you don't have a twitter account you can view tweets by searching for people's user name.
YouTube is a video-sharing website where users can upload, view and share videos. Content is uploaded by individuals and companies. You don't have to be registered to watch the videos.
Read the council's acceptable use guidance, which sets out what customers can expect from our social media channels.
