West Lancashire Borough Council

There are 15 seats up for election across all 15 Wards (1 seat per Ward).

Lancashire Police & Crime Commissioner

1 PCC elected for all 12 District Councils in Lancashire, plus Blackburn and Blackpool (the Lancashire Police Area). The local results of all areas are amalgamated to reach an overall result for Lancashire. Election is led by Blackburn as the Police Area Returning Officer. Parish Councils

40 seats in 4 Parish areas (13 Parish Wards) are also up for election on Thursday 2 May. All Parish candidates nominated for the 2024 elections have been elected uncontested.

Information for voters

Information on registering to vote, applying for a postal vote, or applying for voter ID can be found below.

  • Poll card delivery begins on Friday 22 March 2024. You do not need to bring your poll card to vote at the polling station.
  • The deadline to register to vote for this election is midnight on Tuesday 16 April 2024.
  • The deadline to apply for a postal vote is 5pm on Wednesday 17 April 2024.
  • Postal votes will be delivered on or around Saturday 20 April 2024 (for those who applied by 2 April. If you apply after this point, the postal vote will arrive around Wednesday 24 April). If you have not received your postal vote pack by Friday 26 April 2024, please contact the Elections Office on 01695 585014 as you will be able to arrange a replacement.

 

Voter Identification at Polling Stations

You must present one of the following forms of photographic identification to vote at a polling station: 

  • a passport issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man, a British Overseas Territory, an EEA state or a Commonwealth country (including an Irish Passport Card) 
  • a driving licence issued by the UK, any of the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man or an EEA state 
  • a biometric immigration document 
  • an identity card bearing the Proof of Age Standards Scheme hologram (a PASS card) 
  • a Ministry of Defence Form 90 (Defence Identity Card) 
  • a Blue Badge 
  • a national identity card issued by an EEA state 
  • an Older Person’s Bus Pass 
  • a Disabled Person’s Bus Pass 
  • an Oyster 60+ Card 
  • a Freedom Pass 
  • a Scottish National Entitlement Card issued in Scotland 
  • a 60 and Over Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales 
  • a Disabled Person’s Welsh Concessionary Travel Card issued in Wales 
  • a Senior SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland 
  • a Registered Blind SmartPass or Blind Person’s SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland 
  • a War Disablement SmartPass or War Disabled SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland 
  • a 60+ SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland 
  • a Half Fare SmartPass issued in Northern Ireland 
  • an Electoral Identity Card issued in Northern Ireland 
  • a Voter Authority Certificate or a temporary Voter Authority Certificate.

Further proof of identity 

You may be required to provide further proof of identity if there is any discrepancy between your name as shown on your form of photographic identification and the name of the elector (or proxy) you claim to be.

 

Polling stations

Polling stations will be open from 7.00am until 10.00pm on Thursday 2 May 2024. Your polling station can be found on your poll card when you receive it.

Can't make it to the polling stations?

The deadline for applying to vote by post is 5pm Wednesday 17 April. You can apply by visiting Apply for a postal vote - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). You can also download a copy of the application form via the Postal and proxy votes link below.

The deadline for applying to vote by proxy is 5pm on Wednesday 24 April 2024. Applications can be made online at Apply for a proxy vote - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).

However, in cases where unforeseen illness or incapacity occurs, you learn you cannot go to the polling station because of work reasons, or your Voter Id is lost/damaged/stolen, emergency proxy applications (paper forms only) can be made up until 5pm on Thursday 2 May.

The Count

The count will take place at Burscough Sports Centre, Bobby Langton Way, Burscough, L40 0SD.

Entry is for Candidates, Agents and Invited Guests only. The deadline for candidates/agents to appoint Counting Agents is 5pm on Friday 26 April 2024.

The count is open to press but on a strictly ticket only basis. All media ticket requests should be directed to tom.lynan@westlancs.gov.uk, telephone number: 01695 585013.

Verification

Verification will commence at 10pm on Thursday 2 May 2024. The Count will commence from 2pm on Friday 3 May 2024.
