Christmas Lights Switch On events return to bring festive cheer to the Borough

West Lancashire is set to kick off its Christmas celebrations with not just one, but two Christmas lights switch-on events again this year.

 

Skelmersdale Switch-on

After a triumphant debut last year, Skelmersdale will be first to dazzle on Saturday 18 November from 11am on Southway, outside the Concourse Shopping Centre and the Youth Zone. A Festive Fair will welcome an array of market traders to a Christmas-themed market while the world-famous Silcocks family provide 'all the fun of the fair' for families. The Monster Munch Monsters will also be entertaining crowds throughout the day, thanks to Skelmersdale-based Pepsico.

From 12pm, a fantastic stage hosted by the E-rooms will welcome the famous Skelmersdale Prize Band to play traditional Christmas carols and dance groups will perform exciting routines to really get visitors and shoppers in the festive mood. Street entertainers Elf HQ and the Disco Heads, courtesy of Anita Ryan events, will also be providing some spontaneous fun and games.

The lights will be officially switched on at 5pm by the Mayor of West Lancashire Councillor Mrs. Maureen Nixon and Lily the Monster Munch Monster.

 

Ormskirk Switch-on

On Sunday 26 November, Ormskirk will host its annual Christmas Lights Switch On Event in the historic town centre from 11am. A stage located close to the Clock Tower will host incredible performances from 12pm by The Rock Choir, Connected Voices, Edge Hill University's Dance and Theatre Societies, and Showbiz Academy to entertain crowds. Star Kidz Elves and the Disco Heads will be on hand to provide some spontaneous entertainment and audience participation.

A festive themed market with provide visitors with a chance to shop for Christmas gifts and enjoy delicious hot food, festive drinks and delights. Silcocks will also make a return, offering their family-friendly fairgrounds for all to enjoy.

The Skelmersdale Prize Band will once again be on hand to warm hearts with renditions of much-loved Christmas carols accompanying a short service. At 5pm, the Christmas lights will be switched on by the Mayor and Ormskirk-born comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw, as Ormskirk once again sparkles and shines as a destination of choice this festive season.
