Council funding boosts community wellbeing as Hope Street steps up support

We Are Hope Street CIC (Hope Street) have benefited from over £11,000 funding boost from the Council’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to support their work in the community and those facing challenges with their mental health.

This year’s £11,349 award builds on last year’s £30,000 grant award. The funding supports an essential project aimed at reducing inequalities, helping vulnerable residents, and strengthening community resilience during the cost-of-living crisis.

Located in the heart of Ormskirk town centre, the community organisation offers a safe, welcoming and supportive space six days and three evenings a week.

Since 2018, its passionate volunteer team has provided free services to improve physical and mental health and overall wellbeing.

Councillor Vickie Cummins, Lead Member for Health and Wellbeing, said: "We are proud to have supported Hope Street with this funding which has enabled them to expand their invaluable work in our community.

“The Cost-of-Living Crisis continues to affect many individuals and families and organisations like We Are Hope Street provide an essential lifeline, providing vital assistance and helping residents build strength in challenging times.

“It's important organisations like We Are Hope Street get the support they need to help change lives for those in West Lancashire."

Sheila Byrne, Chief Executive Officer at Hope Street, added: “We're incredibly grateful for this additional support. It means we can reach even more people in need, support with mental health and tackling loneliness and continue breaking down barriers to wellbeing and keep offering a space where everyone feels safe and seen.”
