Council opens Call for Sites for West Lancashire
West Lancashire Borough Council is carrying out a 'Call for Sites' exercise, inviting residents, businesses and other interested parties, to put forward sites they think might be suitable to meet future development needs across the Borough.
Any sites submitted for housing or employment will form the basis for the forthcoming West Lancashire Strategic Housing and Employment Land Availability Assessment (SHELAA), which is a data-based report to identify and assess potential land for future housing and business development.
It is important to note that where a site is identified in the SHELAA as having development potential, this does not indicate or confirm that the Council will allocate the site for development in a future local plan or grant planning permission for such a development now or in the future.
The Council would like to hear about any sites that could potentially be used for housing, business, employment land, traveller accommodation, retail, commercial uses, land for people to build their own homes and for potential new greenspaces.
Only sites capable of accommodating five or more dwellings or 500 square metres of employment or stand-alone (employment) sites under 0.25ha should be submitted.
The Council will consider all sites received in this process and these will form the pool of potential sites from which any proposed land allocations will eventually be chosen in a new Local Plan.
Sites submitted under any previous Call for Sites, will not be automatically included. They will need to be re-submitted to this Call for Sites if they are to be considered for development as part of a new Local Plan.
The Call for Sites is open until 11:59pm on Monday 02 November 2026.
More information about the Call for Sites exercise and a link to complete a site submission form can be found on the Council's website: https://www.westlancs.gov.uk/shelaa
