Dial A Ride services continue for West Lancashire as Council confirms continued support

  • West Lancashire Borough Council agree £30,000 funding for community transport service
  • Funding will support travel provision for the next year
  • Vital service provides support for vulnerable members of our community

Ongoing support for West Lancashire Dial A Ride has been confirmed in West Lancashire Borough Council’s budget, with a grant of £30,000.

The funding means this essential service will continue to be there for those in our community who need bespoke transport solutions.

Councillor Anne Fennel, portfolio holder for Communities, said: “I’m delighted that once again, this Council has been able to help secure this vital service for our residents.

“Without this provision, many people would be effectively ‘locked’ in their homes, unable to attend medical appointments, get essential supplies or have any social interaction at all, so it was important to us to secure this service on behalf of some of our most vulnerable residents.”

Philip Walker, Manager at West Lancashire Dial A Ride added: "We are very grateful that West Lancashire Borough Council has once again recognised the service we provide as vital for residents to be able to access local services, particularly for the elderly, vulnerable, disabled and isolated across the Borough.

“This funding will allow us to continue our work and will no doubt come as welcome news to all of our service users.”

West Lancashire Dial a Ride is a not-for-profit community Transport service for residents of the Borough. For over 30 years, they have been providing essential door-to-door transport for those who cannot access public transport services using their familiar red and white minibuses, and more recently using volunteer driven private cars.

West Lancashire Dial A Ride is not affected by some changes to funding taking place in other areas of the County.
