West Lancashire set to benefit from 50 new public litter bins

West Lancashire Borough Council is set to install 50 new public litter bins across the Borough as part of ongoing efforts to keep communities clean, attractive and welcoming.

The investment, confirmed at a meeting of Full Council in July will help tackle littering, improve environmental quality and respond to feedback from residents, Councillors and local communities about the need for additional bins in key locations across West Lancashire.

The new litter bins will be installed in priority locations following an assessment of local need, footfall, accessibility and operational requirements. Locations are expected to include parks, public spaces and transport routes.

The Council currently manages a network of public litter bins through its Clean and Green service. The additional bins will strengthen existing provision and help encourage responsible waste disposal.

Councillor Neil Furey, Committee Chair for Communities and Environment, said: "West Lancashire has some of the most picturesque places in the north of England, keeping West Lancashire clean and attractive is a priority for the Council and something that matters greatly to our residents.

“The addition of 50 new litter bins will help make it easier for people to dispose of waste responsibly, helping to reduce litter and improve the appearance of our towns, villages, parks and public spaces.

“This investment responds directly to feedback from residents and communities and will help us continue creating cleaner, greener and more welcoming places for everyone."

As part of the project, residents will be able to locate the new litter bins by visiting the Council website once their locations have been decided. Installation of the new litter bins is expected to begin later this year.
