Local List

Burscough WharfThe Local List was fully reviewed during 2014/2015. This involved assessment of the buildings contained on the previous approved list as well as those nominated by Parish Councils, Council Officers, and some by local people with a specific knowledge of local history.

We have sought to include new entries that contribute to the distinctive character of West Lancashire, e.g. water pumping stations, farm workers' dwellings (also known as 'paddyshants'), and former industrial buildings. We have also sought to highlight a number of the distinctive buildings/structures that reflect the significant contribution made by the New Town movement with the building of Skelmersdale.

Our assessment of each building has been carried out using criteria developed from Historic England (external link) best practice.
