MINISTRY OF HOUSING, COMMUNITIES & LOCAL GOVERNMENT – MAKE THINGS RIGHT CAMPAIGN

The Social Housing Regulation Act 2023 has been introduced to improve the lives of social housing residents.  The Consumer Standards have been introduced to set out the specific expectation and outcomes that all registered providers will be expected to achieve.  These standards will apply from April 2024.

  • Safety & Quality Standards – requires landlords to provide safe and good quality homes.

 

  • The Transparency, Influence and Accountability Standards – requires landlords to be open with tenants and treat them with fairness and respect sot that tenants can access services, raise complaints, when necessary, influence decision making and hold their landlord to account.

 

  • The Neighbourhood & Community Standard – requires landlords to engage with other relevant parties so that tenants can live in safe and well-maintained neighbourhoods and feel safe in their homes.

 

  • The Tenancy Standard – sets requirements for the air allocation and letting of homes and for how those tenancies are managed and ended by landlords.

 

The Make Things Right Campaign is designed to empower residents in making their voices heard when they have a problem with their home.

Consultation on two important areas of social housing quality, Awaab's Law, will introduce time limits for social housing providers to ensure they are taking swift action to address dangerous hazards such as damp and mould.

A new Standard of Competence and Conduct will ensure that staff have up-to-date skills, knowledge, and experience, and that they exhibit the right behaviour to a high-quality standard and treat residents with respect at all times.

The consultations are now closed. The Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government are currently analysing the feedback from both consultations'.
