Green Belt Study (2011)

Purpose

We prepared a Green Belt study as part of the evidence base for the 2012 Local Plan.  Its purpose was to assess parcels of Green Belt land around existing settlement areas and to establish whether or not this land should still be included within the Green Belt designation.

Further Green Belt assessment was carried out as part of the preparation work for the Local Plan Review and 2038 Local Plan.  Please see Local Plan 2040 Evidence Base for more details.

Addendum

The Green Belt Study was finalised and published in December 2011. The Council subsequently received a further submission containing more detailed comments. It was considered pertinent that the Council take account of the submission.  To this end, the Council prepared an Addendum to the Study to be read alongside the main Green Belt Study

Consultation responses

We consulted on the draft Green Belt study in 2011. The Consultation Report below details all comments and the Council’s responses.  Where reference is made to appendices within the representations, these are available in a separate document which can also be downloaded below.

Please note:

  • The study is not a review of Green Belt policy
  • The study does not identify land to be released from the Green Belt. Whether or not any sites are released for development is a decision for the Local Plan.
