If you have ever thought of becoming a Councillor and standing for election, then you can find out more about the election process at a virtual meeting later this month.
West Lancashire Borough Council and six local Parish Councils are holding elections on 5 May 2022 and you may be able to stand as a candidate in one of the elections if you meet the eligibility criteria.
Councillors have three main roles:
- To represent the people in their local area and listen to their views
- To make decisions about how the Council is run, what services should be provided, and how money is spent
- To provide community leadership, such as enabling different organisations to work together to make their area a better place
If you are interested in being a candidate or agent at the upcoming elections and want to know more about the electoral process, a briefing is taking place on Wednesday 23 March 2022 at 5:30pm online via Microsoft Teams.
Jacqui Sinnott-Lacey, Returning Officer for West Lancashire, said: "Being a Councillor gives you the opportunity to make a real difference to the area you represent. There are no set qualifications or experience required.
"Skills gained through raising a family, volunteering or being active in faith or community groups are just as valuable to being a Councillor as skills gained in employment or training. The event will tell you everything you need to know about the election process, so please join us if you want to find out more."
