Changing Places pods to be installed at two West Lancashire locations
- Pods to be installed at Beacon Country Park and Coronation Park
- Toilet facilities for those who cannot use a standard accessible toilets
- Facilities provide more space to accommodate extra mobility or medical equipment
State-of-the-art Changing Places toilet pods are to be installed at Beacon Country Park in Up Holland, Skelmersdale and Coronation Park, Ormskirk.
The facilities are designed specifically for people who cannot use a standard accessible toilet.
The significant investment of £150k needed to deliver the pods was secured by the Council following a successful application to the Department of Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC).
The high-tech pods provide more space to accommodate extra mobility or medical equipment. There is also space for up to two carers who may need to provide additional assistance.
Councillor Anne Fennell, portfolio holder for Communities, said: “This pod will be a vital addition to two of the Borough's busiest and most popular locations.
“Providing a facility for people who have additional needs and require equipment such as overhead hoists and a height-adjustable sink, will make sure Beacon Country Park and Coronation Park are accessible for all. It is important we can help people when they are not at home.
“This will also be helpful for those who wish to use Ormskirk town centre for shopping, socialising or services.”
Contractors have been confirmed and installation, which will see the pods delivered and craned into position onsite as a complete unit, is set to begin by the end of March 2024 and completed by June, 30 2024.
Changing Places facilities typically include:
- Overhead room coverage hoist system
- Height-adjustable changing bench
- Peninsular toilet
- Height-adjustable sink
