Active West Lancs gives people of all ages the opportunity to embrace a healthier lifestyle.
Building on existing projects, this service includes gym-based programmes, swimming, health walks, school activities, family workshops, after-school clubs, a 12-week challenge for weight management, community farming/allotments, taster and physical activity sessions.
We run a wide range of activities across various settings such as leisure centres, community centres, parks & outdoor facilities, schools & community allotments in a bid to get our community more active.

Free 9 week beginners running programme for walkers who want to take up running.
Join us on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6.00 - 7.00pm at Lordsgate Township Cof E Primary School, 7 Lordsgate Drive, Burscough, L40 7RS.
Start on week one with 60 seconds of running followed by 90 seconds of walking, for a total of 20 minutes. Gradually build this up over the weeks to a constant 35 minute run!
Just wear comfortable clothes and appropriate footwear/trainers. We will encourage you along the way - give it a try!

Our week of FREE, fun activities has been organised as part of a Lancashire-wide initiative.
Events will include:
Monday 18: Active Eco. Open day at Burscough Community Farm, Meadow Lane, L40 4BB including hands-on harvesting (if you choose), craft activity and refreshments. 10.00am – 2.00pm
Tuesday 19: Active Walks. Join us for some fresh air and well-earned refreshments afterwards! Strollers 3 mile walk, meet at 11am or Striders 6-8 mile wall, meet at 9.30am. Both walks start from Beacon Country Park Visitor Centre, Upholland, WN8 7RU
Wednesday 20: Active Weight. Come over to Tanhouse Community Centre, Ennerdale, WN8 6AN and enjoy a healthy meal at ‘Junkyard Café’ and try out our ‘Smoothie bike’. There will also be blood pressure checks etc. 12.00pm – 2.00pm.
Thursday 21: Active Mile. #yourmileyourway, join in our Lancashire-wide campaign to see how many miles we can collectively clock-up by walking, running, rowing, pram walking, cycling, swimming etc. Don’t forget to record your mile afterwards at active westlancs - we’d love you to send us some selfies of your mile!!
Friday 22: Active Leisure. 9.00am – 12.00pm Come along and try out a range of activities including; indoor bowls, badminton, squash, table tennis, virtual spin, body conditioning* and walking football. Join us for refreshments and a leisure quiz at 12.00pm. Venue: Burscough Racquets & Fitness Club, Bobby Langton Way, L40 0SD

All activities are free of charge and open to residents of West Lancs.
A brand new initiative for you to be referred onto by your GP or medical practitioner. We will be holding weekly golf sessions on Fridays, 10.00am - 12.00pm at Beacon Golf Club, Upholland, WN8 7RU.
Equipment can be borrowed on the day – no previous golf experience needed!! So if you fancy some fresh air, meeting new people and socialising, then have a chat with your GP and if you meet the criteria, you can be referred.
