The Big Picnic

Over the upcoming historic weekend in May, people from all over the country will come together to celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III. West Lancashire Borough Council are set to mark the festivities with 'The Big Picnic' event held at Beacon Country Park on Sunday 7th May.

The celebrations will kick off at 11am, and throughout the day, families and residents will be welcomed to enjoy a traditional funfair, live music curated by E-Rooms, entertainment and activities.

Local community groups are set to get involved, with Burnt Bananas hosting a fire display and drum dancing. The Skelmersdale Prize Band will keep spirits high with their musical interludes, whilst local dance troupes including Newburgh Morris Dancers and Showbiz Academy will keep toes tapping throughout the afternoon.

There will also be a variety of local traders offering a diverse selection of stalls to browse through.

The Mayor, Councillor Mrs Marilyn Westley, will officially open the newly refurbished Coppice Café at 1pm, and residents will be invited to tuck into the delicious cakes from local baking sensation, Mr Thompson.

Wellbeing activities will boost the mood throughout the day, where families will be encouraged to take part in sports day activities, disc golf, a coconut shy and yoga sessions and the Rangers team will be erecting signage to guide residents from the Concourse up through Elmers Clough and towards the Beacon for those who want to leave the car behind and enjoy a walk to the event. The Big Help

In tribute to His Majesty The King's public service, The Big Help Out on Monday 8th May encourages people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas. The aim of The Big Help Out is to use volunteering to bring communities together and create a lasting volunteering legacy from the Coronation Weekend.

We will be collating and promoting any voluntary events on our webpage. If you want to volunteer, keep an eye on this page to find a volunteering opportunity and venue to suit you.

If you are organising a community volunteering opportunity for The Big Help, let us know by emailing events@westlancs.gov.uk
